Pic of the Day: February 6

Buenos Aires’ Jardín Botánico was a few minutes walk away from our Palermo apartment.  The gardens are pleasant enough, and mercifully free of dog poo, but you can’t help but notice the huge population of cats.

For some reason, the Botanical Gardens became the drop-off zone for Buenos Aires’ unwanted cats.  An average of a cat a day is abandoned here.  The city zoo nearby must also be a target, because signs everywhere beg city residents not to toss their pets over the fence.

Local activists won’t allow the authorities to destroy the animals, so volunteers help take care of the garden’s cat herd.  If you prefer to watch your wild cat fights in carefully manicured gardens, this is your spot.
